Rules of Origin

Rules of origin are the criteria used to determine the place where the goods have been manufactured or produced. Their significance cannot be denied because of the fact that customs duties and restrictions are dependent on the origin in some cases.

Where are the rules of origin used:

  • Trade policies: Enable the government to implement measures like anti-dumping duties.

  • Trade data: Provide information for tracking and monitoring trade patterns.

  • Tariff rates: Determine whether a product qualifies for tariffs or import duties.

  • Product authenticity: Verify country of origin claims on the label.
