MRN stands for Movement Reference Number, is a customs identification number created everytime an import or export declaration is submitted. This number is located on the upper right-hand corner of the Export Accompanying Docuement (EAD) that shipper receives from the customs office.
The MRN initiates the export process and allows the package to be shipped. Without an MRN, it is not possible to issue an export certificate.
The MRN consists of 18-digits. The first two characters represent the year of shipment, for example, 20 for 2020. The next two characters are the two-letter country code of the country from which the shipment originated, such as DE for Germany. The last 14 characters are an alphanumeric code that the Customs Authority automatically generates.
